From a small group of pioneering doctors in 1947 to India's largest anaesthesia society — a proud history of service.
The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists was established by a group of pioneering anaesthesiologists following India's independence, with the mission to standardize anaesthesia practice across the country.
ISA launched the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (IJA), providing Indian anaesthesiologists with a dedicated platform for publishing research, case reports, and clinical reviews.
The inaugural Annual National Conference (ISACON) was organized, bringing together anaesthesiologists from across India for the first time. ISACON has since grown to be one of Asia's largest anaesthesia conferences.
ISA formally institutionalized its branch chapter structure, creating independent chapters in every major branch to ensure regional governance and local member support.
The Fellowship of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (FISA) was introduced, providing a formal recognition pathway for senior anaesthesiologists with significant contributions to the specialty.
The Indian Journal of Anaesthesia transitioned to an open-access model and launched its digital platform, dramatically increasing readership and global citations.
A landmark achievement — the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia was indexed in PubMed/MEDLINE, establishing it as an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal.
ISA celebrates its 50,000+ member milestone and organizes ISACON 2025 in Hyderabad — the largest ISACON in the society's history, with over 5,000 expected delegates.
ISA operates through 30+ branch chapters and 500+ local branches, ensuring anaesthesiologists everywhere have access to ISA's resources and community.
Connect with 50,000+ anaesthesiologists, access world-class education, and help shape the future of our specialty.
